Christ, King of the Elements, hear me!
Earth, Bear me.
Water, Quicken me.
Air, Lift me.
Fire, Cleanse me.
Christ, King of the Elements, hear me!
I will bear the burden of earth with Thee.
I will lift my heart to the air to Thee.
I will cleanse my desire for love of Thee.
I will offer my life renewed to Thee.
Christ, King of the Elements, hear me!
Water, fire, air and earth,
Weave within my heart this day
A cradle for Thy birth.
An ancient Celtic invocation brought by those journeying, to bring elemental forces of the heavens into unity to a sacred, earthly place.

The so called western mysteries are a spiritual stream waiting quietly to be revealed in its force and power. Deep consciousness of the forces of nature was nurtured by the ancient Druids, who placed this wisdom in the miraculous stone circles scattered throughout the British Isles. These physical signs bore the heavenly script in material earth which told of the healing forces to be nurtured on earth.
Off the west coast of Scotland there is a haven for these healing forces on earth, once visited by a very special child. A Gaelic legend tells how this young child could neither speak nor walk, but who was set adrift with her foster father on a frail boat (coracle) which came to Innis nan Druidhneach: The Isle of the Druid. Having landed in the Cove of the Coracle (where St. Columba would land 100 years later) the child suddenly began to walk and speak. The legend tells that the young child St. Bride spoke these words:
“I am but a little child,
Yet my mantle shall be laid
On the Lord of the World.
The King of the Elements Himself
Shall rest upon my heart.
And I will give Him peace.”
Christ as the King of the Elements, is spoken by us in our creed,
'He is the Lord of the heavenly forces upon earth'
The St. Bride legend continues with the Druid priests of Iona nurturing her, preparing her for a special destiny. For they recognized in her the prophetic fulfillment given to them, that a child would come to them within whom dwelt an Immortal.
A spirit-child.
The immortal part of our being, the Christ in us, is a spirit-child born in us. When we unite with Him, in our heart's thinking, He lives as the fulfiller of the fatherly deeds of the ground of the world. He lives weaving these heavenly powers into us when they permeate our earthly work.
The name Iona is derived from (among other things) the Gaelic word for the Yew tree ‘iubhair or euair'. The Druids ('they who know the oak') knew the heavenly script, and how to harness the heavenly forces upon earth. With this deep consciousness of the living forces upon earth, they beheld in these yew trees the expectation of a child who would bring healing to overcome the power in the death of matter. Drooping branches of yew trees touch the ground, where they can take root and form new trunks. Thus the yew came to symbolize overcoming the power of death with resurrection in Celtic culture.
His Death, His Resurrection, His Revelation.
Cafe Iona is an opportunity to receive inspiration for 'Walking with Christ', as we tread the path of death and resurrection in our lives, and when we let His Revealing Power live in all the ways of our human soul, for all the ways of our fellow human travelers.
